There are seasons in life when it feels like nothing is going right.

The job falls through. The phone doesn’t ring. The deal you counted on disappears. Relationships become strained. Doors keep closing no matter how hard you push. You begin asking, “God, why does everything seem to be working against me?”

I’ve asked that question more than once.

As someone who has spent a lifetime paving roads, I’ve learned that before a new road is built, the old surface often has to be torn apart. Looking at it from the outside, it appears like destruction. But the crew knows something everyone else doesn’t: they’re making room for something stronger.

God often works the same way.

We see delays. He sees direction.

We see closed doors. He sees protection.

We see disappointment. He sees an opportunity to bless us beyond what we could have imagined.

The Bible reminds us:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” — Jeremiah 29:11

That verse doesn’t promise an easy road. It promises a purposeful one.

Looking back over my own life, some of the greatest blessings came from situations I desperately wanted to avoid. At the time, I thought God wasn’t listening. In reality, He was redirecting me. What felt like rejection was often His protection. What seemed like failure became the foundation for something far better.

Think about Joseph. He was betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and forgotten in prison. If anyone could have believed everything was working against him, it was Joseph. Yet years later he could say, “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good” (Genesis 50:20).

Joseph couldn’t see the palace while he was sitting in the prison.

Neither can we always see what God is building while we’re living through the struggle.

Sometimes we’re so focused on our own blueprint that we miss the Master Builder quietly drawing a better one.

The truth is, our plans are limited by what we can see today. God’s plans are built around eternity. He knows the conversations we’ll have next month, the opportunities that haven’t appeared yet, and the people we’re about to meet. He knows which doors lead to dead ends and which ones lead to blessings we never imagined.

Faith isn’t believing everything will happen according to our plans.

Faith is trusting God when none of our plans are happening.

If you’re walking through a season where everything feels like it’s falling apart, don’t give up. The road may not be ending. It may simply be taking a detour.

And sometimes that detour leads to a destination far greater than the one we originally mapped out.

So don’t lose heart.

Keep praying.

Keep working.

Keep trusting.

One day you’ll look back and realize the very obstacles you thought were standing in your way were actually God’s way of leading you somewhere better.

The blessing wasn’t on the road you planned.

It was waiting on the road God prepared.

“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” — Proverbs 16:9

Trust the One who sees the entire road, even when you can only see the next few feet.

He has never lost His way—and He won’t lose yours.
